Mexico’s GDP grows 0.7% during first quarter, revised data shows

Mexico’s economy grew more than previously thought in the first quarter of 2017, according to official revised data.

Gross domestic product increased 0.7% in the first quarter compared to the previous three-month period and was higher than an earlier reading of 0.6%.

Compared to the first quarter of 2016, growth increased 2.8% from a year ago, a touch ahead of initial estimates of 2.7%.

The expansion comes as US President Donald Trump triggered renegotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico earlier this month, with his administration notifying Congress that it planned to begin formal talks as soon as August.
