Broadcom recently offered US$130 billion for Qualcomm, thus starting an ambitious attempt to complete the largest acquisition yet in the history of the technology sector, establishing an agreement that will potentially revolutionize the electronic industry. Qualcomm's purchase would turn Broadcom into the third largest chip manufacturer, only behind Intel and Samsung Electronics. This combined business would instantly become the default provider of a number of necessary components to build each one of the more than 1 billion smart phones sold around the world each year.
