Mr. Karig studied Automotive Engineering and Industrial Engineering in Munich, Germany. He started his professional career in 1978 as an assistant to the General Manager of an auditing firm in Munich. In 1979 he worked as a financial planner at Deutsche Airbus. In 1980, he joined Volkswagen de Mexico as a junior supervisor in Plant Planning. From 1984 to 1993 he held different management positions in the Financial Controlling Area. In 1993 he was appointed Resident Representative of Volkswagen de Mexico at the Volkswagen Group headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. He returned to Mexico in 1994 as the Project Director for the new Jetta A4. In 1997 he was named Vice President for Public Relations and Government Affairs. Starting 2001, he also assumed responsibility for Quality Management and Strategy.He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of the Mexican Automotive Industry (AMIA) as well as of the German-Mexican Chamber of Commerce (CAMEXA) and of the German School in Puebla.
