General Motors Co. announced it will increase production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV at its Orion Assembly Plant in Michigan later this year in response to increasing global demand, local media reported

GM sold 1,424 Bolts in the U.S. in February compared with 952 in February 2017, an increase of nearly 50%. The company sold about 26,000 globally in 2017. The Bolt became available in California in December 2016, but it arrived to auto dealers nationwide until the second half of 2017.

However, the Detroit automaker saw high demand for the Bolt in Mexico, Canada, the Middle East and Korea last year, driving the push to increase capacity at the increasingly crucial Orion Assembly Plant.
