Automotive transit through Lazaro Cardenas port grows 24% during January

Last January, the Lazaro Cardenas port managed 33,976 vehicles through its premises, which represented an increase of 24% compared to the same month of 2017, when 27,315 units were imported or exported through said maritime terminal.

According to a report from the Integral Port Authority (API), a total of 23,656 vehicles were imported through these facilities located in the state of Michoacan, 27% more than in January 2017, when the figure amounted to 18,587 units. Meanwhile, the exports figure reached 10,270 units, which represented an increase of 18% when compared to the 8,712 vehicles shipped in January 2017.

"The growth in infrastructure and logistics services offered by the Lazaro Cardenas port is of vital importance for the automotive industry, placing this Michoacan facility as the ideal platform for this and all types of cargo, becoming an articulating axis for the production in Mexico and the world, maintaining a global competitiveness," the API said in its statement.

First phase of specialized auto terminal begins operations

Last week, federal authorities inaugurated the first phase of a new Specialized Car Terminal (TEA) at the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, the first of its kind in Mexico, where US$ 50 million were invested to install operating yards, 2 miles of railroad connections, a dredging of 600 meters, plus a berthing area.

The total conclusion of the work will include the development of 43 hectares, a 600-meter dock and 3.7 kilometers of railway connections. This will allow to receive more than 350 cargo vessels and mobilize more than 600,000 vehicles per year, which will boost the strength of the automotive industry in the country.
