Despite the complications that the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has brought to the automotive industry, nearly 40 companies already installed in the state of Guanajuato will carry out expansions in their plants during 2018, opening about 5,000 jobs, said Guillermo Romero Pacheco, secretary of Sustainable Economic Development of the state.

Interviewed by local media during a public event, Romero Pacheco declined to give more details, but said the expansions can be seen with the naked eye in several industrial parks, and quoted the Italian premium tire manufacturer Pirelli, as an example.

"Despite this complicated moment with the renewal of NAFTA, tax reforms, elections, they have a medium and long-term vision for investments, and this is important because these are decisions that sometimes implies duplicating the investment they originally planned," said Romero Pacheco.
