The Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) forecasts that around 42,585 heavy trucks will be marketed this year in the country, 6.3% up from 2017.

In a recent conference, Guillermo Rosales, AMDA’s deputy general director, said that an increase in the sale of commercial vehicles will depend on some macroeconomic indicators and the stability of the country. "This is why it is essential that political actors show sanity," Rosales added in reference to the upcoming presidential elections.

During 2017, heavy truck retailers in Mexico sold 40,053 vehicles, 5.2% below what was reported a year earlier, according to data from AMDA. It was the first reduction since 2014 and the lowest volume in two years.

The decrease was mainly due to a 6% drop in the demand for passenger vehicles (buses), but the cargo truck and tractor trucks also fell by 4.8%.
