Ford Mexico is looking to move its headquarters out of Mexico City, and the Naucalpan area of the State of Mexico can become its new operations center, according to a report from El Universal.

In addition to the corporate offices, the new headquarters can house a development center the company has in Cuautitlán.

According to the report, Ford presented to the city of Naucalpan a project called the Technological Center for Research and Development for the Automotive Industry, which would be located in an area known as El Cristo.

The green field has a total area of 20.11 hectares with the proper permits to establish a “large non-polluting industry”, in addition to a small conservation area. The project plans to build facilities for more than 3,500 professionals.

On September 13, 2017, the council of Naucalpan approved the Partial Plan of Territorial Incorporation for the Ford project, where it was mentioned that the investment for this work would be around US$ 10 million, but the official figure will be announced until the company presents the authorized executive project.

The location of the El Cristo provides easy access to the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, the Mexico-Querétaro highway, the Cuautitlan plant, as well as the Bajio region and the Toluca Valley.

Ford recently announced plans to build electric vehicles at the Cuautitlan plant, where the Fiesta model is currently manufactured. According to El Universal, the research and development center would train engineers in the areas of electronics, robotics and mechatronics for the design and test of vehicle prototypes.
