Six Mexico-made models make the 20 best-selling vehicles in the US ranking

Six models of light vehicles built in Mexico made the 20 best-selling cars and trucks in the U.S. market during 2017, according to data from Kelley Blue Book.

Ranking 19 in the list, despite a 21.1% drop in sales last year, the Ford Fusion totaled 209,623 deliveries in 2017. The company recently cancelled plans to redesign the mid-size sedan originally scheduled for 2020. Ford has yet to announce plans for the assembly plant in Hermosillo, Sonora where the vehicle is made.

Number 17 is the GMC Sierra with 217,943 sold in 2017, 1.7% less than previous year. Crew cab versions of the full-size pickup are built in Silao, Guanajuato along with its “twin” the Chevrolet Silverado.

Despite a sales trend towards SUVS, demand for the Nissan Sentra remained strong to the point its sales increased 1.7% to 218,451, ranking 16 in the list.

Boosted by the strong demand of SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox saw its sales hike 19.9% to 290,458 units ending in the 12th position.

On the third position is the Ram with 500,723 units sold, a 2.3% increase from previous year. Crew cab versions of the Ram 1500, as well as heavy duty models are made at the Saltillo assembly plant, but production is expected to end by 2020.

Number two on the list is the Chevrolet Silverado with 585,564 units sold (+1.9%) although only the crew cab version is built in Mexico. However, the Silverado ended way behind the best-selling vehicle on the list, which is the US-made Ford F-Series with 896,764 units sold, a 9.3% jump compared to sales of 2016.
