Techmer PM to start production in Queretaro plant this month

Tennessee-based advanced materials manufacturer Techmer PM announced it will begin production in its new Queretaro facility this month. The plant will help meet growing demand for color, additives, and engineered compounds in key Latin American markets.

Similar to the rest of its production units, “the Queretaro plant was designed to create high-value technical products that meet demanding quality requirements,” said the company in a statement.

Techmer PM will double the size of the Mexican facility to 120,000 square feet within the next two years. The plant is opening in November and will ramp up production through the first quarter of 2018. Techmer PM will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony early next year.

“We are really excited about the official opening of our Mexico facility,” said Guillermo Quijano, general manager of Latin American operations. “The new plant in Queretaro will enable us to directly serve customers with operations in Mexico, Central America, and South America, producing high-value technical products for challenging applications.”

To support the facility, Techmer PM is currently hiring and training employees. It plans to hire about 100 employees in the next three to five years. In addition, some of Techmer PM’s U.S. team members are moving to Queretaro to support the opening and ongoing growth.

“We prioritize investments that support our growing base of Latin American customers and offer a constant supply of innovative materials,” said Ryan Howley, president of Techmer PM. “This expansion is consistent with our promise to offer predictable quality, quick turnaround, and exemplary technical support and problem solving in every region where our customers operate.”

Techmer PM expects that, going forward, about 60 to 70% of materials developed at the Queretaro facility will be purchased by customers in Mexico. The rest will be exported to other Latin American countries. Customers span the automotive, agriculture, packaging, fibers, and nonwovens sectors, as well as new markets such as 3-D printing.
