Russian state-owned Rostec to open helicopter maintenance center in Mexico

Rostec, a Russian state-owned corporation that develops and manufactures hi-tech industrial products, announced a deal with Craft Avia Center to open a helicopter maintenance center in Mexico, which will also feature a showroom to distribute Ansat helicopters on the local market.

According to media reports, the agreement was reached by head of the Mexican company Jose de Vicente and Russian Helicopters (part of Rostec) CEO Andrei Boginsky.

Craft Avia Center itself is considering the acquisition of up to 15 Russian multi-purpose light helicopters between now and 2020 to use in a wide range of purposes, including transportation of VIP passengers, ambulance flights, as well as for firefighting activities.

The company has already started to build an Ansat helicopter maintenance center along with the showroom that will cover an area of 4,000 square meters. The company also requested Mexico’s aviation authorities for validation of Ansat’s Russian flight certification.

The fleet of Russian-made helicopters in Mexico currently includes about 50 machines of the Mi-8/17 aircraft family, as well as two Mi-26 helicopters.
