Heavy truck production in Mexico boosts 25.6% in August, exports up 47%

Production of heavy trucks in Mexico increased 25.6% to 14,978 units during August, compared to 11,927 vehicles in the same month of 2016. Exports totaled 11,515 vehicles, which represents a 47% hike also compared to August 2016, according to the latest figures released by the National Association of Buses, Trucks and Tractor Producers (ANPACT).
From January through August, Mexican production of heavy trucks, buses and tractors totaled 97,554 units, a 2.9% decrease compared to 100,471 vehicles manufactured in the first eight months of 2016. During the same period exports totaled 72,684 heavy trucks, a 5.4% drop compared to the 76,805 units from January through August 2016, ANPACT revealed.
“August was marked by the best production and exports figures to date, however, such numbers are not good enough to reach a positive result on a year-to-date basis. So far, we’re 4,121 units below 2016 exports and 38,304 vehicles below 2015 exports. In production, we’re 2,917 and 33,729 units behind compared to 2016 and 2015 results respectively,” Miguel Elizalde, ANPACT executive president, said in a statement.
