Mexico’s Auto Dealers Association (AMDA) forecasts sales of 1.55 million cars and light trucks during 2017, a 3.1% less than the 1.6 million units sold in 2016, according to president Guillermo Prieto Trevino.

At the opening of Foro Automotor AMDA 2017, the official warned too many factors, including inflation and the NAFTA renegotiation, have pushed the market to an early cycle ending. “Earlier this year we’d expected a 4 - 5% increase in sales to 1.7 million units, but under current circumstances, our forecast points towards 1.55 million,” he said.

“However, it’s worth noticing sales have increased an average 11.5% in the last seven years,” Prieto added, pointing out that two-digit increases are no longer expected.
