Automotive exports from Nuevo Leon state are expected to reach more than US$ 12 billion in 2017, with the United States as the main destination, said Manuel Montoya, director of the state Automotive Cluster, who added the figure would mean a new record high for the industry, boosted in great part by the arrival of the new Kia assembly plant to the municipality of Pesqueria last year.

There’s currently around 200 automotive companies with operations in Nuevo Leon, whose exports totaled US$ 11.5 billion during 2016, Montoya added.

"We have had a relatively good year, industry exports this year have grown 19% because Kia started operations in May last year, but even if we remove Kia from the calculation, exports have grown by 6% or 7%," he said.

Montoya comments took place at the Proveedor Automotriz 2017 business meeting, where some 250 small and medium enterprises met with 27 Tier 1 auto suppliers and original equipment manufacturers such as Bosch, Caterpillar, Daimler, Denso, Johnson Controls, Kenworth, Metalsa, Nemak and Ternium, among others.
