Gruma, S.A.B. de C.V., a Nuevo Leon-based corn flour and tortillas manufacturing company, announced it’s on schedule to open a third production site for its Mission brand at the municipality of Huejotzingo, Puebla, before this year is ended.

The facility will have a capacity to produce 50,000 tons of tortillas and chips a year, said Gruma on a report issued to stock market regulators.

"With this new plant, which will create 850 direct and indirect jobs, Mission-Mexico consolidates itself as the leading company in the national distribution of corn tortillas and toasts to the retail market. It will serve customers and consumers of the states of Puebla, the Valley of Mexico City, Veracruz and part of the Mexican southeast,” said the company in its statement.

Gruma said it will invest US$ 55.5 million at the plant in a three-phase program, adding that half of resources has been already applied.

The company has two more Mission brand plants located in Tijuana, Baja California and Apodaca, Nuevo Leon with output capacities of 25,000 and 30,000 tons per year, respectively.
