Taiwan-based auto parts manufacturer Macauto broke ground in recent days at the Municipality of Leon, Guanajuato, to build a manufacturing plant to supply exterior and interior components for automakers and other suppliers in the North American region.

Macauto plans to invest US$ 55 million in the production facility to manufacture sun shades, trunk covers and wind deflectors for Audi, Volkswagen and Toyota, as well as auto suppliers like Denso, Inalfa and Webasto.

The company expects to create 700 jobs once the facility reaches its full capacity, but omitted a time frame for such goal.

Macauto has already a small production site in Leon with 120 workers. That plant will close by the end of 2018 and those operations will be consolidated at the new premises, company officials said.
