Mexican auto dealers sold 122,110 light vehicles in the seventh month of 2017, 7.3% less units tan the 131,764 vehicles delivered in July 2016. Total sales from January through July still represent a 1.4% increase to 865,161 vehicles from 853,620 units sold during the same seven-month period from 2016, according to figures from the Mexican Association of Auto Dealers (AMDA for its acronym in Spanish).

Sales of new cars and trucks in the U.S. market dropped 7% to 1.4 million units in July. It was the seventh straight month of sales decline and the biggest falls in this year, according to figures by Autodata Corp. Sales of Detroit automakers fell more than expected. When compared to the same month a year ago, General Motors sales sank 15.4%, the largest decline of the Detroit Three.

While automakers in the U.S. and Mexico saw their sales decline during July, the Canadian market experienced a 4.9% increase in sales to 181,834 vehicles, pushed by a strong economic growth in the country. Year-to-date sales totaled to 1.22 million, a gain of 5% from a year earlier, according to DesRosiers automotive report.

Light truck sales rose 8.3% to 123,603 units, which helped offset a 1.7% decline in passenger car sales, which fell to 58,231 vehicles. Light truck sales often rise when the economy is growing as they are used to transport industrial and manufactured goods, said DesRosiers.
