The SUV segment in Mexico posted record sales during the first half of the2017, totaling 159,773 units, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period of 2016, according to data from the Mexican Auto Dealers Association (AMDA).

Last June alone 28,186 units were sold, 7.8% more than the 26,122 units sold in the same month from the previous year.

Contrary to the U.S. market where SUVs and pickups sales represent more than half of total, SUV sales in Mexico still make up for less than a quarter market share, just 21.5%, if compared to total sales of 743,051 vehicles during the first half of the year.

The Honda CV-R grabbed a 9% market share with 14,415 units, making it to the first position of this category and becoming the only SUV among the 10 most sold vehicles in Mexico.

The Nissan X-Trail followed with a 7.9% market share to 12,625 units, while the Kia Sportage took the third place, totaling 9,569 units and a 6% share.
