Here’s how sales of built-in-Mexico cars performed during March in the U.S. market

Auto sales for units built in Mexico had a mixed performance over the U.S. market during March, according to figures released by each company. The following report does not necessary reflects that each vehicle from certain model was built in the Mexico. Automakers constantly mix domestic and overseas supplies from several countries to meet U.S. demand.

Ford’s overall U.S. sales fall 7%; F-Series grow 10%

Overall Ford Motor U.S. March sales totaled 236,250 vehicles, a 7% decline versus a year ago. However, Ford F-Series sales totaled 81,330 pickups, a 10% increase compared to March 2016. Built-in-Mexico units results are as follows: 5,488 Ford Fiesta compact cars were sold last month and totaled 13,044 units over first quarter of 2017, both figures representing 20.6% and 20.1% hikes respectively; 18,759 Ford Fusion sedans sold in March and 50,786 units during the first quarter, meaning 36.8% and 32.3% declines respectively; 2,479 Lincoln MKZ sold last month and 6,643 in the first quarter, a flat result for the first figure and a 1.4% increase to the latter.

GM sales, market share increase during March in U.S. market

Retail sales were 203,113 units during March, up 5%, and market share was up 0.6% to an estimated 16.1 percent. For the first quarter GM’s retail sales were 546,838 units, up 1.9%, and retail market share was up 0.2% points to an estimated 16.8 percent. The gains were primarily driven by crossovers, which were up 21%. Sales for the Chevrolet Trax, which is built in San Luis Potosi, were up 51% during March and 54% up for the first quarter, said the GM report which did not provide exact figures. 

FCA sales down 5% in U.S. market; Dodge Journey deliveries skyrocketed 100%

FCA reported U.S. sales of 190,254 units, a 5% decrease compared with sales in March 2016. Sales for models exclusively built in Mexico went as follows: 11,858 Dodge Journey sold last month, a 100% hike from 5,931 units in March 2016; 1,671 Fiat 500 delivered, a 12% increase compared to same month in 2016. March also marked the month when the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass began shipping to dealerships. Since the unit is being sold along with the previous version no official sales figures have been released.

Audi of America sets new March record

Audi of America reported a March sales increase of 2% to 18,705 vehicles, as the Q5, Q3 and A4 led the volume gains. March 2017 marked the 75th consecutive month of record sales for Audi of America. The previous March record was set last year with 18,392 vehicles sold. Through the first quarter of 2017, Audi sales have risen 9% to 45,647 vehicles. SUV sales remained strong with the built-in-Mexico Q5, posting volume-leading sales of 4,382 vehicles, an increase of 18% for the month.

Toyota reports 2.1% decrease in U.S. March sales

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) Inc. reported U.S. March 2017 sales of 215,224 units, a decrease of 2.1% from March 2016 on a volume basis. Toyota division posted sales of 187,289 units, down 1.2%. Lexus posted sales of 27,935 units, down 7.5%. Sales of the company’s signature Tacoma midsize pickup —which is built in San Antonio, Texas and Tijuana, Mexico— fell 5.4%, or 959 vehicles, to 16,728 in March. For the first quarter, Tacoma sales are down 2.4%, or 1,083 vehicles, to 43,493.

Honda reports sales decrease of 0.7% in the U.S. market

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. reported total March sales of 137,227 Honda and Acura vehicles, a decrease of 0.7% over March 2016. Sales of built-in-Mexico models went as follows: The HR-V crossover set a new March record, rising 19.6% on sales of 7,653 units, as for the first quarter sales totaled 19,696 units sold, a 26.9% hike; Honda Fit sales reached 5,060 units in March, a 6.1% rise, while for the first quarter the compact model totaled 11,902 deliveries, a 3.4% increase.

Nissan Group reports all-time record sales for a month of March

Nissan Group announced U.S. sales in March 2017 set an all-time record at 168,832 units, an increase of 3% over the prior year. Sales for built-in-Mexico models went as follows: during March Nissan sold 12,336 units of its Versa compact car, including sedan and hatchback version known as Versa Note, the figure represents a 24.1% decrease. During the first quarter 31,075 Versa units were sold, meaning a 14.9% fall. As for the Nissan Sentra 21,960 units were sold in March, a 16.2% decrease, sales for the first quarter totaled 51,414 units, 18.3% down compared to same period of 2016.
