As Fiat Chrysler Automobile bets on the all-new redesigned Jeep Compass to increase its share in the compact SUV global market, the Mexican plant is revving up to take a leading role in the strategy.

FCA will rely on its Toluca plant to supply the North American, European and Middle East markets, except for United Kingdom, where right hand drive versions will be provided by a small plant located in India, which will also take care of the Australian market.

Mike Manley, chief for the Jeep and RAM brands, said Jeep's Mexico plant is now up and running and ready to start supply of left hand drive models from mid-year. Brazil will supply additional capacity if required.

Manley estimates the compact SUV segment hit 6.3 million globally in 2016 and is projected to top 7.5 million by 2020. He expects global Jeep sales to a projected 1.9 million units by 2018.
