Dallas-based Marengo Foods recently opened its new 52,000-square foot facility in San Juan, Texas.

The company was previously using a facility in Hidalgo, Texas, but had been outgrowing that building for years, Marengo CEO Juan Manuel Ibarra said in an e-mail to ThePacker.com.

The San Juan facility can hold 2,100 pallets in its racking system, which is more than triple the capacity at its old facility, which had room for 650 pallets.

The new building has five independent temperature zones and 16 loading docks, and extra-wide doors on the docks allow for trailer doors to open inside the facility. The docks open from the inside of the company’s cooler, increasing both cold-chain maintenance and efficiency.

The new facility is just four miles from the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

Marengo has been operating out of its San Juan facility since July but more recently completed its PrimusGFS audit, which required a minimum of three months of operation. The company received a 98% on the audit, Ibarra said in the e-mail.
